Elder Abuse Investigation:
The West Central Illinois Case Coordination Unit investigates all reports of Elder Abuse in a domestic setting in Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Pike, Hancock and Schuyler.
Elder Abuse Can Mean:
Financial exploitation- being forced to sign over money (Social Security checks, pension checks, savings accounts) or property.
Physical Abuse- being handled roughly, slapped or hit.
Emotional Abuse- being insulted, threatened, called names or harassed.
Neglect- being denied food, medical care, clothing, shelter, or social contact or being forcibly confined or restrained.
Sexual Abuse – being forced to be sexually intimate.
Anyone can make a report of suspected abuse. The reporters name will be kept confidential.
A Case Manager will contact the victim and help determine what services are most appropriate to stop the abuse. Those services may include in-home care, adult day care, legal assistance, emergency shelter, petitioning for an order of protection, law enforcement intervention, etc.
The older person has the right to accept or decline these services.
